National Playwrights Conference Submission Guidelines


National Playwrights Conference accepting submissions from September 15th to October 17th, 2008

Submission guidelines below

Each playwright may submit one play of any length. Adaptations (or any other use of material protected by copyright) must include proof of rights to use source material. Translations are not accepted.

Submission guidelines are as follows:

  1. Send a total of three (3) scripts, collated, paginated, and bound only with binder clips or brads (Please do not use any three-brad portfolio covers or report covers in general).

    • One (1) copy should have the author's name and contact information on the title page.
    • The other two (2) copies should include an anonymous title page with the title of the work, but without any marking that might identify the author of the play. In an effort to save trees and shipping costs, we encourage all applicants to submit double-sided copies of scripts.

    Additionally, please send on separate pages (On each separate page please include your contact information: name, address, phone, and e-mail):

  2. A biographical statement with emphasis on your history as a playwright.

  3. A synopsis of your play.

  4. A character break-down with descriptions and ages.

  5. A statement of particular objectives you have for working on your play at the conference.

  6. Send one (1) CD-R, 3.5 inch floppy disc, or USB flash drive including a digital copy of your script and all additional materials (biographical statement, synopsis, character breakdown and statement of objectives) in PDF format or Microsoft Word .

  7. A check or money order for $35.00 payable to National Playwrights Conference, to cover the costs associated with the selection process.

  8. A completed application. Applications are available online here or can be attained by sending a SASE to National Playwrights Conference, 305 Great Neck Road, Waterford, CT 06385 - ATTN: Submission Guidelines.

Only submissions complete per these guidelines and postmarked within the open/close dates of Monday, September 15th and Friday, October 17th will be considered.

    NO incomplete submissions will be accepted.
    NO drop-off script deliveries will be accepted.

If you would like notification that your script was received, please enclose a self-addressed stamped postcard or send it with Delivery Confirmation, Certified Mail, or Return Receipt through the U.S. Postal Service.

    Please note that no submitted materials will be returned.

Playwrights whose scripts are selected are guaranteed room, board and round-trip transportation to and from the Conference. Those playwrights selected to participate in the 2009 Conference agree to be in residence for the entire length of the conference.
