Since our founding in 1964, dozens of generous donors have provided for the O’Neill through bequests and other estate gifts.  Such support has allowed us to provide a world-renowned haven for new work and new artists. Future estate gifts are critical to preserve the O’Neill’s as the Launchpad of the American theater for generations to come.

Supporters who have made provisions for the O’Neill in their estate plans are eligible to join The 1964 Society. Such provisions may include a gift through your Will, trust, life insurance, or retirement assets. Membership involves no dues, obligations, or solicitations, but does allow us to thank and recognize future supporters, which will also inspire generosity in others. The 1964 Society is an honored group of O'Neill founders, artists, supporters, and friends whose commitments to the O'Neill will extend beyond their lifetimes.

"David and I decided to name the O'Neill in our trust because of the amazing work they do in the development of new plays.  Growing up in New York, we were fortunate to see many Broadway plays.  A perfect day for me even today is going to the theater! After moving to Waterford in 1982, I started volunteering at the O'Neill and worked on the Book Bus before the curtain and during intermissions. A charming man used to chat with me often, and I was struck by his kind and unassuming manner.  That man was the incredible August Wilson!!  It would be my greatest wish that our support of the O'Neill could some day help another new playwright achieve the remarkable success that Mr. Wilson found at the O'Neill! I encourage other theater aficionados to remember the O'Neill in their estate planning."
